Facilities Planning Committee
The Merkel ISD Board of Trustees established the Merkel ISD Facility Planning Committee as part of its long-term planning for district facilities, including consideration of a potential bond election in November 2025. The committee includes a diverse cross-section of the community, with parents and non-parents, young adults and senior citizens, as well as teachers, business owners, and community leaders.
The committee, comprised of approximately 20 members, studied district financial data, conducted a district-wide facilities assessment, and evaluated projected costs of potential projects. Members also toured existing facilities to assess current conditions firsthand.

- Benefit to Students
- Community impact
- Overall value
The District unanimously passed a motion to call a Bond Election in the amount of $20,000,000 for the construction of a New Middle School.
